Cardinals Intrested in Matt Garza

Reports coming in today that six major league teams have been calling Theo Epstein for the past two weeks in regards of the Cubs right-hander Matt Garza. The teams that are mentioned are the Royals, Tigers, Redsox, Bluejays, Braves and the Cardinals. I wonder if Epstein would even trade with the Cardinals since being in the same division. Who would the Cards give up? Could we pull a deal with one of our low A players since the Memphis Redbirds need lots of help. I guess we will wait and see as the trade deadline gets closer.

Youklis Traded to Whitesox

I have just learned that one of my Baseball Fantasy Players has been traded to the Whitesox for righthander Zach Stewart and utility player Brent Lillibridge. In my fantasy league I tried to trade Youklis for Yu Darvish some weeks ago. The silence I received by the other team was his way of telling me no. I was trying to be somewhat funny. The Redsox will be picking up $5 million of his remaining contract of $7 Million. Kevin Youklis still remains on my fantasy team, not unless anyone is interested in him.

Ethier Signs Extension with Dodgers

Today the Dodgers made a excellent move by giving Andre Ethier an five year extension that is worth $85 Mil. The extension will keep Ethier and Kemp together for a long time. The new deal includes salaries of $13.5 million for next year, $15.5 million for 2014, $18 million each for 2015 and 2016 and $17.5 million for 2017. The Dodgers have a $17.5 million option for 2018 with a $2.5 million buyout, and Ethier’s 2018 salary could become guaranteed based on plate appearances in 2017 or 2016-17 combined. The option vests with 1,100 plate appearances in 2016-17 combined or 550 plate appearances in 2017. This move shows how much the Dodgers want to commit to this team to keep them a contender.

Cardinals Draft Tate Matheny

Mike Matheny told the Cardinals not to draft his son Tate, so guess what the Cardinals did…..they drafted Tate Matheny anyway. It wasn’t until the 23rd round that the Cardinals decided to grab him. The main reason Mike did not want his son Tate not to be drafted by the Cardinals is mainly about the way Tate would of been treated if he was. Tate would be under a microscope being the managers son.Tate a centerfielder at Westminister High School in St.Louis has hit .610 (61-for-100) with 11 home runs, 10 doubles, 11 triples, 51 RBI, 60 runs and 25 stolen bases during his senior year. I had found out that Tate was believed to be picked in the earlier rounds but many teams passed on him due to having a commitment at Missouri State. Tate was not the only player drafted that has connections with the Cardinals. Jose Oquendo’s son Eduardo described as a slick fielding infielder was drafted in the 32 round. Also drafted Micheal Aldrete which is Mike Aldrete’s son and Derrick May Jr. the son of the roving instructor Derrick May. The other son of a Cardinal drafted is Jacoby Almarez. His dad is Joe Almarez that works as a cross checker with the Cardinals. Now that the draft is over we will have to wait and see if the Cardinals will sign these players.
