Wigginton signs on with Cardinals

This came out of nowhere for me. I had no idea that Wigginton was on the Cards list. It happen this morning  when I recieved an email that the Cardinals signed Free Agent Ty Wigginton to a 2 year deal for $5 mil. The Cards now have their right handed bat they needed for the bench. Ty is able to play outfield, first base and third base. I like the signing. Ty’s numbers were down in 2012 but he had less at bats. Back in 2010 he did hit 22 homeruns and 76 rbis but he was more of a full time player. On the other hand this could be his highlight year. Could he be the next Lance Berkman of 2011? Ty will be fun to watch this year. Welcome to the team Ty!

Cardinals Looking at Hairston

On the Cardinals shopping list this off season is a need for a right handed power hitter to come off the bench. Amongst the many players they are looking at one name keeps popping up, Scott Hairston. According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Hairston is still one of the top free agents still available. The Mets are still intrested in resigning Hairston. Hairston is intrested in a multi year deal. The teams that are also intrested are the Cardinals. Yankees, Phillies, and Giants. In 2012 he hit 20 HRs…57 RBIs and had a .263 BA. He could be a valuable asset to the Cardinals as an extra outfielder and as a threat to any opponents.

Schumaker Traded to the Dodgers

With the glowing recommendation of the Dodgers Batting Coach the Dodgers finally made the deal with the Cardinals to trade their minor leaguer Jake Lemmerman for Skip Schumaker. With this trade the Dodgers filled their need for a bench player. The Cardinals recieved Lemmerman just to fill a spot for one of their minor league teams. Jake was on the Dodgers top prospect list back in 2011. He hit 8 HRs….54 RBI and had a .293 batting average. In 2012 Lemmerman was bumped up to the Lookouts. While there he had a modest year. He hit .234 batting average and still managed to drive in 11 runs over 21 games. Not sure what kind of plans the Cardinals have for him. Jake is young, at the age of 23. He is a natural at short stop, but can play second base and third base.

Cards Close to Signing Randy Choate

It looks like that Cardinal Lefty Marc Rzepczynski will finally have another lefty specialist to help to set up for the closer. Randy Choate is currently close in signing with the Cardinals, there is an agreement but not finalized. In 2012 Randy led the league in 80 appearances. Choate will visit St.Louis this friday for a physical. Looks like he will get $7.5mil for 3yrs according to Derrick Goold.

Bengie Molina offered Cardinals Batting Coach Assistant.

Well it looks like Yadi’s big brother might be joining the Cardinals as an assitant to batting coach John Mabry. The job offer happen today. We should find out more after the Winter Meetings are finished in Nashville. It would be fun to have both Molina brothers again on one team. Bengie and his brother Jose played together on the 2002 Angels team.
