Today the Angels signed 36 year old Mark Mulder to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training. The last time Mulder pitched was back in 2006 and then retired in 2009 after a couple of surgeries he had to his shoulder. Mark Mulder, a one time Cardinal pitcher was considered a bust after his first year as a St. Louis Cardinals pitcher. The Cardinals traded their coveted right handed rookie Dan Haren along with Kiko Calero and Daric Barton to the Athletics for Mark Mulder. I was shocked to see the Cardinals wanting to trade a rising star like Haren for him. Mulder’s first year with the Cardinals looked pretty good with a 16-8 record. He also had three complete games with two of them being shutouts. This left handed stud looked like a keeper. In 2006 after going 5-1 in May his pitching soon went good to awful, he had rotator cuff problems that led to surgery. His career soon fizzled out with St. Louis. Some months back I was surprised to hear that Mulder plans a comeback, after giving an scouts only performance he becomes an Angel today. Good luck Mark!
