Matt Carpenter Gets Extension

Since last week I kept hearing that Matt Carpenter will get an extension by the start of the 2014 Season. Today it finally happen. For the next six years Carpenter will receive $52 million with a club option in 2020. He will receive $15.8 million a year. It looks like he just might be a Cardinal for life. Carpenter’s 2013 season was spectacular enough to warrant this new deal. Matt led the National League in runs, doubles, and hits, coming one short of a 200-hit season. The left handed-hitting Carpenter was given third base for this season since the Cards traded Freese away. Matt has shown the ability to also play the outfield and first base, he has a lot of flexibility. Most importantly he came in fourth in MVP voting. Its good to see Matt getting rewarded for abilities.
