Mozeliak Gets Extension

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that Senior Vice President and General Manager John Mozeliak has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the team through the 2018 season. 

            “Over the last six seasons Mo has done an outstanding job leading our baseball operations,” said Cardinals Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. “By extending Mo’s contract with the club, we look forward to continuing our approach which emphasizes excellence at the Major League level, supported by a strong player procurement and player development program.”   
The 12th General Manager in Cardinals history, Mozeliak, 45, is a 19-year veteran of the Cardinals front office who has served as the team’s General Manager the last six seasons (2008-2013).  During his tenure as General Manager, the Cardinals have advanced to the postseason four times, winning a World Championship in 2011, and the National League Championship last year.  The Cardinals have twice been recognized by Baseball America as the Organization of the Year (2011 & 2013).  The prestigious honor recognized the Cardinals for their success in scouting and player development
Mozeliak was named Executive of the Year in 2011 by and in recent years he has been successful in locking up core players Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina, Adam Wainwright, Allen Craig, and Matt Carpenter with long-term agreements with the Cardinals.
“I am fortunate to work with one of the true leaders in our game today,” said Mozeliak.  “Bill DeWitt is a visionary leader who has overseen one of the most successful periods in our storied history.  I look forward to continuing my relationship with this great franchise as we try to bring another championship to our fans and city.”
