The Cubs sign Jason Motte

I am sad to see Jason Motte leave the Cardinal organization due to his dedication to the team and the cause he is very much involved with, Strike Out for Cancer. I met him briefly a few years ago and found him very out going and personable.Motte signed a one year contract worth $4.5 million. Motte was one of the game’s best relievers prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.43 ERA from 2010-2012 while averaging 9.5 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9. Motte scuffled in his return from Tommy John surgery this past season, posting a 4.68 ERA and 17/9 K/BB ratio over 25 innings while showing diminished velocity. The 32-year-old right-hander made just nine appearances during the second half due to a back injury and he was left off the Cardinals’ postseason roster. I will sure miss him. With the Cubs stacking their team and trying to lure other players like Colby Rasmus to the roster. With these additions the Cubs just might give the Cardinals a run for there money.
