Matt Adams out with Injury

Big City down but not out. Adams suffered a strained quadriceps muscle Tuesday and was  placed on the disabled list. He had hurt his quadriceps while running out a double, his seventh of the season, which improved his numbers at the plate to a .243 batting average and .656 OPS in 42 games. The Cardinals called up catcher Ed Easley has been recalled from Memphis (AAA).

Easley, 29, was on the team’s roster for a brief three-game stint April 10-12 while Tony Cruz was away on paternity leave.   He has yet to appear in a Major League game.

The right-handed hitting Easley was batting .295 (31-for-105) with three home runs and 18 RBI and a .422 on-base pct. in 33 games for Memphis.  He has enjoyed a solid month of May, batting .340 (17-for-50).

Easley was batting .432 (11-for-26) vs. left-handed pitching and .351 (13-for-37) with runners in scoring position for the Triple-A Redbirds who recently had an eight-game winning streak.  We will see Mark Reynolds at first base while Matt Adams is out.
