Cardinals Rule Draft Pick Matthew Bowman

Today the Cardinals picked one player in the major-league portion of the Rule 5 draft: righthander Matthew Bowman from the New York Mets.

Here is a brief scouting report on Bowman…..Triple-A RHP Matt Bowman throws so many strikes and pitches off a quality sinking fastball that you would ideally like to see him pitch at the back of a rotation. While other organizations don’t necessarily see a plus pitch out of Bowman, the Mets see a bulldog with four offerings that project to major league average, or near enough to play. Like Jake deGrom, he played mostly shortstop in college, and Bowman’s athleticism helps all facets of his game play up.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak’s commented on Matthew Bowman, “Bowman will come to spring training with a chance to win a long relief”

Looks like Matthew Bowman was a good pick for the Cardinals for 2016
