Just when spring training was going so well we find that Peralta could miss 2-3 months because of a left thumb injury, GM John Mozeliak told reporters Monday. Peralta suffered the injury on Saturday and underwent an MRI. Mozeliak said the initial results the MRI were “not positive,” saying early indications are that Peralta has a torn ligament. Peralta left Cardinals camp earlier Monday in street clothes to undergo further testing. Mozeliak said the Cardinals will wait for the results of Peralta’s second opinion before deciding whether to pursue outside help at shortstop. With Jedd Gyrko as the Cardinals back up infielder I imagine we will see him as our main shortstop for now. Personally I would love to what Almedys Diaz can do for us during spring training before the Cardinals make any outside moves. If the Cardinals do go outside to find help I tend to think that Alexi Ramirez might be on the market. One name I keep hearing about is Ruben Tejada. I guess we will wait and see what the Cardinals want to do.
