With all the over stuffing of the All-Star Ballot by the Chicago Cubs Fans by getting Rizzo, Zobrist, Russell, Bryant and Fowler at their starting positions we have a much deserving player like Matt Carpenter that was just added on as a reserve player. If Carpenter was to be voted in by his numbers he would be the starting third baseman for the All Star Game. Lets look at his numbers so far…..
He’s homered 13 times, stroked 23 doubles and tripled five times — which puts him in a tie for the NL lead with 41 extra-base hits. He’s third in runs scored (52) and tied for 12th with 47 RBIs.
In terms of the metrics, Carpenter is an All-Star among all-stars…..hands down!
Carpenter has an NL-best leading wRC+ of 163, which means he’s 63 percent above the league average offensively. He leads the NL with a .989 OPS (third in the majors.) He’s second in the NL with a .413 onbase percentage, fourth in slugging percentage (.576) and eighth in Isolated Power (.280.)
Since balloting for the 2016 MLB All-Star game closes Thursday night at 10:59 p.m. St. Louis time, there is still a chance for Yadier Molina to beat out Buster Posey. So get your votes out Cardinals Fans for Molina.
