With Alex Reyes getting the call up today, the Cardinals also decided to bring up Luke Weaver this Saturday to face the Cubs. Weaver, the Cardinals number two rated prospect in their minor league system, has excelled at every higher level in his ascent through the farm system. In 2015 with High-A Palm Beach, the righty went 8-5 with a 1.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 105.1 innings. This season with Double-A Springfield, he went 6-3 with an even better 1.40 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 77 innings. Weaver was then promoted to Triple-A Memphis this past week and made one start, tossing six innings of scoreless ball en route to the win. The 22-year-old will likely be called up prior to Saturday’s game and looks to match up against Kyle Hendricks and the high-powered Cubs offense.
