Major League Baseball announced the finalists for the 2016 Gold Glove winners, and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright and catch Yadier Molina were included for their respective positions.
Molina has won the previous eight Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in the National League. Wainwright has two Gold Gloves, from 2009 and 2013.
Wainwright had a perfect fielding percentage in 41 defensive chances thisseason.
Molina’s .998 fielding percentage at catcher is tied for the highest in his career at that position. However, he had the worst season of his career in terms of throwing out runners. At 21 percent, it is not only the worst of his career, but also the first time he was below the league average, which was 27 percent in 2016.
The official winners will be announced on November 8, on ESPN. To see the entire list of nominees, go to MLB’s website.
