For the past few days Matt Adams has been very buzz worthy. First of all he was one of several St. Louis Cardinals players who attended the Winter Classic, although fans may not have recognized him as easily. The first baseman shared that he has lost around 25lbs this off-season, thanks in part to a new training regiment.
Adams has stayed in St. Louis this off-season and has been working out at the stadium with the team yoga/pilates instructor Kim Wallis and strength coach Pete Prinzi. Some days, the schedule has included two or even three pilates sessions.
Excited for the upcoming season, Adams also assured that he has not lost any strength during this process, noting that his swing is actually measuring better in tests. This was reported by Brian Stully.
Yesterday Bob Nightengale reported that the Royals and Cardinals has preliminary discussions about Matt Adams. Adams is projected by MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz to earn an affordable $2.8MM salary in 2017, so the Royals could find a way to squeeze him into the payroll (especially if any additional veterans are moved following last month’s trade of Wade Davis). As a bonus, Adams is controllablethrough 2018 via the arbitration process.
At this time there are no specific players that the Royals would trade except for the possibility of Jarrod Dyson since the Royals just acquired outfielder Peter O’Brien from the D-Back. Dyson just might be the odd man out which means he could be the Cardinals extra outfielder.
